Esa-Pekka Salonen: Rituals: Requiem

Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to the podium for Los Angeles Philharmonic: Esa-Pekka Salonen - Rituals: Requiem at Walt Disney Concert Hall on February 14, 2027. The concert is part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2027 program, with Mitsuko Uchida and the orchestra included in the event lineup. The program title, Rituals: Requiem, points to a concert shaped around remembrance and ritual.

A Finnish conductor and composer, Salonen is known for bringing a contemporary perspective to orchestral music and for his longstanding relationship with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He served as the orchestra's music director from 1992 to 2009 and later became its conductor laureate. His work spans the traditional symphonic repertoire and music by living composers, reflecting a career built around both performance and musical innovation.

Salonen's return is especially fitting at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Philharmonic's downtown Los Angeles home. Designed with a vineyard-style seating arrangement and celebrated acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota, the hall brings audiences close to the musicians. Concertgoers can make an evening of the event in the Civic Center, where restaurants and cultural destinations are close by.
